Belmati Kansari
Kankeri, Bandhapari GP, Lanjigarh, Kalahandi
Belmati Kansari, a seasoned Dhokra artisan aged over 65, is a testament to resilience and dedication in the traditional craft of Dhokra metal casting. Her story is one of hard work, perseverance, and adaptability, showing that passion for art knows no age. Even after years of experience, Belmati Kansari is always eager to learn and adapt to modern tools producing top quality designs.
Uanshu Kansari
Kankeri, Bandhapari, Lanjigarh, Kalahandi
Uanshu Kansari is a 47-year-old artisan hails from a family deeply rooted in the tradition of Dhokra Art. He was taught Dhokra artform by his grandparents who struggled to sustain it due to limited market access. After the Project Adikala intervention, Uanshu along with other artisans formed a Producer Group to produce quality Dhokra and now his children are receiving formal education, meanwhile his family income has increased substantially from 7 k to 15 k per month.
Jyoti Kanssari
Kankeri, Bandhapari GP, Lanjigarh, Kalahandi
Hailing from Gatiguda, a village known for its rich tradition of Dhokra craft, Jyoti Kansari comes from a family of artisans. Post-marriage she settled in Kankeri and continues to pursue Ancestral art. Today, as a mother and a dedicated craftswoman, Jyoti skilfully balances family life and her passion for Dhokra. Through her craft, she not only supports her family but also keeps a generational legacy alive.
Ratna Kansari

A young artisan from Kankeri, Ratna Kansari inherited the legacy of Dhokra craft from his father — a highly respected and skilled artisan who played a key role in keeping the tradition alive. Learning the intricate process from a young age, Ratna has now mastered the art, with a special focus on customized Dhokra creations. His work reflects both tradition and innovation, making him one of the emerging faces of contemporary Dhokra art.
Buddu Kansari
Kankeri, Bandhapari GP, Lanjigarh, Kalahandi
A senior and skilled artisan from Kankeri, Buddu Kansari is among the pioneering women who established a strong presence in the traditionally male-dominated Dhokra craft. With over 30 years of life experience, she continues to learn and evolve in her art. Her dedication not only sustains her own income but also inspires the next generation of women artisans in the community.
Urmila Kanari

Urmila Kansari is a determined artisan from Kankeri who broke barriers in the male-dominated field of Dhokra craft and earns a sustainable livelihood, becoming an inspiring example for other women in her village.

Malanti Majhi
Niyamgiri Vedanta Nagar, Lanjigarh, Kalahandi
Malanti Majhi, a 30-year-old Saura artist, is one of the first three women from her village to complete a formal training program in traditional Saura art. Since then, she has taken on the role of a mentor, teaching and inspiring other girls in the community to learn and carry forward this indigenous art form. Her dedication is helping preserve cultural heritage while creating new opportunities for local women
Radma Majhi
Niyamgiri Vedanta Nagar, Lanjigarh, Kalahandi
Radma Majhi’s journey exemplifies how skill-based empowerment can transform lives. From being a trainee in 2018 to becoming a trainer and leader of a thriving artisan collective, she has played a crucial role in uplifting her community. With continued institutional support and market opportunities, Radma and the Kritikala PG Group are set to take Saura art to new heights, ensuring its legacy thrives while improving the livelihoods of rural artisans.
Sasmita Majhi
Niyamgiri Vedanta Nagar, Lanjigarh, Kalahandi
Sasmita Majhi, a 27-year-old Saura artist, is one of the senior members of the first group to receive formal training in the art. Despite the responsibilities that came with marriage, she continues to practice Saura painting with dedication. Sasmita not only sustains her artistic journey but also supports her parents, balancing tradition, family, and self-reliance—making her a respected role model in her community
Rajani Challan
Niyamgiri Vedanta Nagar, Lanjigarh, Kalahandi
Rajani Challan, a 19-year-old Saura artist, is known for her dedication and firm determination. As the only daughter among her siblings, she chooses not to rely on her family for financial support. Instead, through her dedication to Saura art, she earns an independent livelihood and takes pride in contributing to the family's needs whenever necessary. Rajani's story reflects both independence and a deep sense of responsibility.
Pabita Sahu
Niyamgiri Vedanta Nagar, Lanjigarh, Kalahandi
Pabita Sahu is a young and promising Saura artist who is currently balancing college studies along with her passion for traditional art. Though she started learning recently, her quick grasp of the techniques and dedication to the craft has opened doors to financial independence.
Bhumita Majhi
Niyamgiri Vedanta Nagar, Lanjigarh, Kalahandi
Bhumita Majhi, a 26-year-old Saura artist, is pursuing her higher education while actively practicing traditional art. Balancing both studies and creativity, she independently manages all her personal expenses through the income earned from her artwork. Bhumita’s dedication reflects the strength of self-reliance and the growing role of indigenous art in empowering young women.
